1. Match the top card
Play a card of the same suit or the same rank as the card face up on the pile.
2. Eights are wild
An eight can be played on anything, and you name the suit that follows it. It will not get you out of a draw, though: see below.
3. The other three that do something
A two reverses the direction of play, a queen skips the next player, and an ace makes the next player draw two. Aces stack: each ace adds two more cards to the pile.
